El Timbal is a cozy and friendly bar in the heart of Poblenou, which would be nothing special if it was not for two things. First, the space El Timbal occupies is incredibly sunny, as the building that it occupies is very wide, but not very deep, allowing for windows on both sides. Second, and the most important, is that El Timbal makes arguably one of the best patatas bravas in Barcelona, "arguably" because it's impossible to know for sure unless you tried every variation of this typical Catalan tapas in every small bar in Barcelona. The truth is that in El Timbal potato wedges with spicy mayonnaise are most excellent, other food is tasty and cheap, and the service is friendly as well. Thumbs up!

MesDvi

MesDvi is a wine bar that opened recently in the heart of "the Catalan Manchester", the barrio of Poblenou. MesDvi is a very inviting space thanks to its modern décor and a mixture of seating options that include leather sofas, glass tables and one long wooden table. Walking into MesDvi is akin to walking into a stylish living room and bringing friends along: the atmosphere here is quiet, but not reserved, and the bar is open every night.

As for the wines, this is the best part about MesDvi: the whole page in the menu is dedicated to wines per glass – at least four reds, three whites, one sparking and one rosé are always present. The price varies from inexpensive to exclusive. The menu has various cheeses and cold cuts sourced from around Catalonia, and there is a separate wine card for wines sold per bottle.

The wine selection changes every two weeks or so. The staff are friendly and informative, speak excellent English in addition to Castilian and Catalan. Becoming a regular in MesDvi is a pleasure and is almost too easy if you are staying nearby!
