Sant Andreu

Sant Andreu is the district of Barcelona in its easternmost part, bordering on Nou Barris to the west, Ronda de Sant Martí to the south and the river Besòs to the east. Sant Andreu used to be a part of the large municipality of Sant Andreu de Palomar, and retained most of its territory along with the name except for several neighbourhoods that joined Nou Barris after the 1984 division.

Sant Andreu has a mean income index of 66,5 and is not a wealthy area by any means, but three out of seven of its barrios, namely Sant Andreu, La Sagrera and Navas, are popular among middle class families with children and have a higher mean income index of 80,1.

One of the points of interest of the district is the Sant Andreu de Palomar church, a beautiful cathedral built in the later part of the 19th century, notable for its 68 meters high dome. The dome is currently in dire need of reconstruction, and the area of the church directly below it is not used for safety reasons.
